What is CMPA?
CMPA is an immune reaction to proteins found in cow’s milk, such as casein and whey. It is different from lactose intolerance.
Quick Guide
• Cow's milk (in all forms) • Casein and Caseinates • Whey • Lactose (may contain traces) • Cream, Butter, Cheese, Yogurt • Annatto extract (sometimes contains milk)
• ALWAYS read the label, even if you already know the product. • Look for the phrase 'Contains: Milk' at the bottom of the list. • Beware of cross-contamination ('May contain...', 'Processed on equipment...'). • Prefer foods with certified 'Vegan' or 'Dairy-Free' seals.
• Substitutes: Almond, soy, rice, oat milk. • Calcium: Broccoli, spinach, almonds, fortified tofu. • For cooking: Use coconut oil or vegetable margarine instead of butter.
